“Where do babies come from?” is the inevitable and dreaded question every parent hopes they never get asked. But for an LGBTQ+ parent, the question is even more difficult to answer.
In learning how complex, discriminatory, and unhelpful the system is for a queer family to have a child, we created an equally complicated bed time story of sorts.
Luckily, we found others who are as sad/mad/pissed/etc as we were about this process. The Family Equality organization became our partner to encourage Americans to support the Equality Act and the John Lewis Every Child Deserves a Family Act, pieces of legislation to remove adoptions barriers for LGBTQ+ people.
